They said what?!

Hello from Texas,

It looks like my unfiltered writing is ruffling some feathers based on early reviews being rejected or censored. I’ve stopped listing my novels in the vigilante justice category for this reason. It is okay for the James Bond type, but for your average Joe (or Jane), not so much.

That said, I’m not going to expend energy or waste your time by complaining. It’s just a note not to believe everything you see. Although, if you’re reading this, I suspect there’s no need to point that out. Thank you for joining me on this unconventional journey.

I was thrilled by the support from those who preordered directly from my site. It fuels my passion to keep writing outside the mainstream. For those asking where to purchase, know I appreciate your support regardless of retailer. While rankings and bestseller badges are nice, what matters most is sharing bold stories with engaged readers.

The early reviews have been great to read. Knowing my writing resonates makes the long hours worthwhile. I’m eager to hear more of your thoughts once you’ve read the full story.

It seems we live in a time where creators and brands lose sight of the customers who allowed them the joy of creating in the first place. My intention is to always remember and appreciate you, the readers, making this indie dream possible.

“If you are looking for a wild ride, Britney King is your girl. What begins as an innocent seeming story, soon spirals into a dark and steamy tale that you have to read to believe.

Blood, Sweat and Desire is a story of a group of longtime friends, and weekend away that changes everything forever. Copious amounts of alcohol and a night of games ends in murder. Which of them is capable? None of them are who they appear to be, all hiding deep, dark secrets from each other. Full of twists and lies, this is a crazy, read in one sitting book that you will devour.”

“Blood, Sweat, and Desire is vintage Britney King’s writing brilliance! The premise is simple: six college friends get together for a relaxing weekend at a luxury estate. During a booze-filled night of imbibing, reminiscing, and story-telling, the weekend hostess suggests that the friends take their relationships to a new level by consensually swapping spouses for the night. Despite initial trepidation, all eventually agree for various reasons.

As the night proceeds, grudges with spouses, festering envy, hidden desires, years-old jealousies, and primal urges are revealed. Lucid decision-making is perhaps clouded by excessive alcohol consumption. Then all hell breaks loose the following day as one of the spouses is found brutally murdered.

Emily is a worthy successor to the intriguing women protagonists that are characteristic of Britney King’s novels. Emily’s husband, Jack, is the male protagonist. On the surface, they seem to have an ideal marriage. But in reality, both are hiding many secrets from their friends and one another. Emily and Jack are risk-takers and daredevils with unique moral codes.

While most of the story is told from the point of view of Emily, some chapters are from Jack’s perspective. And several chapters are observations from “Anonymous,” an unrevealed member of the weekend getaway.

Emily and Jack’s marriage quickly disintegrates following the ill-fated weekend as old secrets surface, and trust is eroded. Emily also becomes distrustful of her long-time friends, and questions are raised about whether it is her paranoia and guilt or if people are plotting against her.

The book’s final third is filled with multiple twists, turns, and unexpected revelations and is definitely “unputdownable.”

Blood, Sweet, and Desire is a white-knuckle thrill ride of a well-plotted, well-paced, and well-written story interspersed with tales of jealousy, envy, animosity, betrayal, lust, revenge, and primal urges. I loved everything about Blood, Sweet, and Desire and am pleased to give it my highest possible rating.”

“What a great read! Britney King is my go to psychological thriller author, and this is just another example of why.

A group of friends get together for a weekend away and well, it’s not what any of them expect and it isn’t boring. Britney King does not do boring. The question is, will they swap and why is there a dead body in the morning? Emily and Jack seem to have it all, but is he going to push Emily too far?

This is such an awesome thriller with twists you won’t see coming and characters you will need to watch because anything can happen and it doesn’t always end well. I just love the writing and the whole thriller is gripping and just a must-read that gets better with every page and it starts off from a high. I’ve not found a better author, and this is just another great novel from her. I’m not sure how she does it, but she never fails to blow your mind with each book, and this is another one of them.

So it’s highly recommended in my books, and I am sure you will agree.”

“We never know what Britney King has in store for us, but one thing’s for sure: we know we’re in for an intriguing, off-the-beaten-track and, I might add, sensory experience. And that’s exactly what she delivers with Blood, Sweat, and Desire, and then some.

The story is written from the points of view of the two main characters and a third, anonymous character. The fluidity with which she strings together chapters from the point of view of the two main characters (Emily and her husband Jack) is representative of the strong bond that unites them, despite the whirlwind of pitfalls that beset them. This is another of Britney King’s strengths, creating multidimensional characters. Another home run for Britney King, who gives us a run for our money!”

“Twisted from the get-go! A spouse swap to take a break from their normal lives?!?!? Intriguing, but “Sometimes promises are easier said than kept.” What an escapade! Oh, the questions, suspicion, 2nd guessing & emotional baggage that pile up! “Like many marriages, it’s easy when it’s easy, and it’s hell when it’s not.” Throw in lust, feelings, consequences, murder, & close friendships, which makes it an excellent recipe for a story you can’t set aside! In true Britney King style, you’ll be kept guessing until the perfect aha moment with an uncommon story to mull over well beyond the last page!”

______

“Wow, just wow! Britney King is the master of creepy and I mean that in the best way. As is always the case, the book was well written. The storyline is intense, with many, many twists and turns. I definitely had a love-hate relationship with the characters. They all took turns being likable and then in the blink of an eye would become the worst type of monster, the friend that turns on you when you need them most. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.”

______

“Britney King is a brilliant writer of psychological thrillers. Blood, Sweat, and Desire is a masterpiece of suspense. From beginning to end, this book keeps you glued to the edge of your seat. Many twists and turns in the plot keep you guessing until the very end. The surprise ending was eye opening. I highly recommend this book to all psychological thriller fans.”

______

“As always, this was a very enjoyable thriller. The thing I love most about Britney King’s books is that there is often a story within a story and that fact adds a level of depth that aids in building suspense. The story started a lot like Clue, which I really enjoyed but then became more of a different type of suspense thriller. The characters aren’t always what they seem and the plot can show the repercussions of decisions made. Personally, I did not find myself liking any of the characters and I think that was intended. Excellent read!”

______

“Unputdownable, quick thrilling read that you absolutely can’t stop until you find out who did it and who the anonymous narrator is. Told between Emily and Jake and anonymous’ perspective, the questions keep coming and you can’t quite solve the mystery. And when it comes to morally gray characters, this one takes the cake!!!”
