Notes from readers… 1/5

“I’ll write to you. A super-long letter, like in an old-fashioned novel” ― Haruki MurakamiAfter Dark

It probably comes as no surprise given that most of my books contain (or in some cases revolve around) letters/notes/emails, that they’re up there with the things that make me happiest. Written words are my most favorite kind. 🙂

Because it’s November, and because gratitude and appreciation seeming fitting… and also because I have my nose to the grind finishing my latest novel, I thought I’d share some of my favorite recent notes from readers this month—with their permission of course.

The best part is, people always seemed so surprised when I write back, which I always do, and often I get the funniest responses around that. I cherish them all.

The first note is one of my favorites because people often make fun of me or give me pushback when I tell them I actually have quite a few male readers. So there’s that. Also, I love The Princess Bride. 🙂

Dear Britney,

I usually don’t read romances that are so difficult to follow and that have so many twists and turns, and places where I’d swear or get mad, but your two books did it to me. My life hasn’t been an easy one and I usually read to escape the harshness of life – not to embrace it, but I have to say that your books did a great job of my rethinking that.

I greatly enjoyed both books even though they were a bit out of my comfort zone. I haven’t been this involved in books surprising me so much since first reading William Goldman’s “A Princess Bride” years ago when it first came out.

I read a great deal, I always have, more than one a day when I have the time – I read really fast, and I truly love books and libraries.

And I must say your two books are close to the top of the list of my favorite books now.
I’m looking forward to some more from your that aren’t quite as dark as what you usually write, but that have some spice to it.

Thanks for the good reads. I hope you bring many more great tales to us.

Donovan S.
