“I’ll write to you. A super-long letter, like in an old-fashioned novel” ― Haruki Murakami,
It probably comes as no surprise given that most of my books contain (or in some cases revolve around) letters/notes/emails, that they’re up there with the things that make me happiest. Written words are my most favorite kind. 🙂
Because it’s November, and because gratitude and appreciation seeming fitting… and also because I have my nose to the grind finishing my latest novel, I thought I’d share some of my favorite recent notes from readers this month—with their permission of course.
The best part is, people always seemed so surprised when I write back, which I always do, and often I get the funniest responses around that. I cherish them all.
This is one of my favorites, because it’s funny, but also because I’ve always wanted to travel to Scotland and even if I haven’t (yet) it’s nice knowing my work has. Plus, her response back is absolutely lovely. People’s stories make genuinely happy.
Good evening Britney,
I have just finished reading your book and loved it. I couldn’t wait to see what happened, and I am glad [sentence redacted as it contains spoilers.] It moved at a great pace, it was a page turner and kept my interest throughout. I look forward to reading more of your books. I read this book over a 3 day period while at work. Honestly, I’m allowed to read a book in between taking calls for The Scottish Police Force! It made those 3 days fly in!
Keep up the amazing work.
Very best wishes,
Ah, how lovely to hear from you. I was ever so pleased to have received an email back! I’m now in Spain, on holiday with my family, and just returned from an evening out where Elvis made an appearance!! The most hilarious thing was that I actually knew him from 2006 when I lived in Spain. I met him and his partner at a coffee morning where I became friends with them for a few years. It was amazing to have seen him this evening.
You absolutely have my permission to use my name and location, no problem. It’s a pleasure. I’m sitting here with my parents telling them about your book and the lovely emails we have shared! They live here in Spain. I’ll download another book when I get home. Many thanks.
