Beyond Bedrock Scene 3/4

“Few things are as satisfying as retribution.” — Britney King, Beyond Bedrock

This week brings another excerpt of Beyond Bedrock. 🙂

See this post for the full backstory.

Of course, Lydia had to learn the hard way that she’d only been hired because the worst possible thing ever had happened. How could it be that the love of her life had gone and knocked up his wife? Maybe that wouldn’t sound so abnormal to most people—but Lydia wasn’t most people. She knew the truth. Addison had gotten pregnant on purpose. To keep him. William didn’t even want the baby. She had practically heard the words come straight from the horse’s mouth.

She had followed Addison to lunch, parked herself in an adjacent booth—which was no easy feat seeing that it was already occupied. But she worked her usual charm, landed a seat, and listened.

Sadly, what she overheard was quite possibly the worst news she’d heard in her entire life. She wanted to go to Addison then, to stab her fifty times, and make sure at least half of them went straight to the heart just like she’d done to her. Few things are as satisfying as retribution. An eye for an eye, and all.

But Lydia was smarter than that. She knew all about timing. She knew her plan had to be calculated. So, when she couldn’t take it anymore, she did what any person in her shoes would have done. She sauntered up to the table and played herself up.

Addison was pleasant enough, but that company of hers needed to be the first thing on Lydia’s list to knock off. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
